TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADES
Operated by: Akisqnuk First Nation
The Lakeshore Resort and Campground is Columbia Valley’s largest campground located on the pristine shores of Lake Windermere, British Columbia. Ideally located a few short kilometres north of Fairmont Hot Springs, B.C. and south of Windermere, B.C., the Lakeshore Resort and Campground is 100 per cent owned and operated by the ʔakisq̓nuk First Nation.
In operation for more than 30 years, the Lakeshore Resort and Campground is a strong component of the Columbia Valley’s regional tourism economy.
Several recent additions have enhanced visitor experience. These include the new Legacy Hall — an 1800 square foot open air, roofed, gathering place available for weddings, reunions, and other public and private functions and built by youth from the ʔakisq̓nuk First Nation — and the addition of two children’s playgrounds. In June 2018, the official opening of an interpretative trail took place, which is open to the public.
The Lakeshore Resort and Campground contributes to the tourism economy of ʔakisq̓nuk First Nation and the Columbia Valley. Its’ mission is to support the well-being and economic self-reliance of ʔakisq̓nuk First Nation members through sustainable employment. In 2018 the campground employed 10 people, 8 of whom are ʔakisq̓nuk First Nation community members.
Lakeshore Resort and Campground is an active stakeholder of the Indigenous Tourism BC, along with membership in the Columbia Valley Chamber of Commerce, and Radium Hot Springs Chamber Of Commerce. In 2015 Lakeshore Resort and Campground was honoured to receive from BC Aboriginal Business Awards, the Outstanding Achievement award for community owned businesses.
